People prefer cloud storages instead of local storage is because of its portability and support for different devices. We have plenty of cloud services available online and most of them offers minimum 10GB of storage space and multiple platform support to access files from different devices. Security is the primary concern, when it comes to online storage and all the cloud services are secured by default. If you have important files on your Cloud storage and want to add more security to your files, there are many security add-ons available for different cloud services. Secryptor is one such add-on for Dropbox, which helps you to encrypt the files before you upload. Here’s how it works.
Secryptor is a free app, available for Windows, Mac, iOS and Android devices. Once you complete the installation, you will see a window as shown in the screenshot above. The interface is pretty simple and easy to understand. The Window will be divided into two sections as “Encrypt File” and “Decrypt File”. To start with the app, first click “Encrypt File” option in the Window and choose a file to upload to your Dropbox. As soon as you select the file, it will open two options, one is to connect your Dropbox and another one to encrypt and save the file locally.
If you are using the app for the first time, it will ask you to log into your Dropbox account. Once you enter the log in details, it will give a code to a connect the app to your Dropbox account. Copy that code and go to the Secryptor application on your device. Now paste the code in that blank text box and click “Connect” to authorize the connection. Once you confirm the connection, it will take you to a new window, where you encrypt files and upload them to your Dropbox account.
As soon as complete the encryption process, the app will show you a code to Decrypt that particular file. You can decrypt a file either by using that code or by using the password you’ve set while encrypting it. Apart from security, you will get an extra 200MB of storage space in your Dropbox account, after you connect the app. If you are a regular user of Dropbox, Secryptor is worth giving a try.
