When you copy or move files in Windows 8 or 8.1 you’ll be shown a dialog that gives you an idea of how long the operation will take to complete. You do have the option of clicking the More Details button at the bottom of the dialog to view a transfer speed graph.

You may well like the idea of seeing this graph by default every time you copy or move files rather than having to manually opt to display it. If you don’t mind editing the registry, you can do just this so you’ll always be able to see the extra information about files tasks.

Press the Windows key and R at the same time, type regedit and press Enter to launch the Registry Editor. If a User Account Control dialog appears, press Yes to continue.

Navigate to the key called HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\ Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\OperationStatusManager and then double click the entry labelled EnthusiastMode in the right hand pane. Change the value to 1 and click OK.

Restart your computer to apply the registry changes and you will see full details on subsequent files moves or copies.
