PDF is one of the most used formats by people who work with documents regularly. It is because, the PDF documents are secured by default. Also, the alignment and the contents cannot be easily changed in the documents. So, most of the people prefer PDF format for all their important documents. There are many add-ons and tools were available to support and improve the security of PDF documents. Previously, I wrote about a web app to convert any type of document into PDF and a simple web service to convert email attachments and web pages into PDF documents. Today, I came with a new supporting tool for PDF documents called “Free PDF Protector”, which encrypts the documents and improves the security. Here’s how it works.
As of now, Free PDF Protector is available only for Windows. You can download the application using the link below. Once you install the app, you protect any PDF file on your PC with a password. All the passwords you create are protected with 128 and 40 bit encryption. A single PDF file or multiple folders can be protected using this application. Apart from setting a password, you can allot different levels of permission to the documents. Two types of permission levels are available, one is user level and another one is owner level. User level people can only view the documents, but owners can edit, delete and modify the content.
The interface of the application is very simple and easy to understand. In the app’s window, just drag and drop the PDF files to encrypt it with a password. You can select any number of files at the same time to set a password. User and Owner passwords can be separately allotted to a single file for different level of access. For books and other copyrighted documents, you can set author, subject, title, etc., right from the application. The application supports up to 38 languages, which makes it easy to use for all types of users.
PDF protector is a free application, which helps you to protect the important and confidential PDF documents easily using its encryption method.
